Price: £6.70 with additional resources at a variety of prices – some free.

With the advent of the iPod, iPhone, Palm device, Blackberry and Windows Mobile phones many believers may be interested in knowing what spiritual resources are available for these popular devices. Laridian Bible software provides material for them all.

The Pocket Bible software is downloaded and installed first. It is important then to download your additional resources and there is a wide variety available to enable you to use your device for serious Bible study. Its free range of Bibles include: King James Version, American Standard Version, Darby’s New Translation, Young’s Literal, Revised Standard Version, and Weymouth’s Translation. For those who want other versions they can be purchased at additional cost and these include the New King James, the English Standard, and the New International versions.

For those who are interested in word studies the King James Version is available with Strong’s numbering system. You can also purchase the complete Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words, the Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament, and Word Study Dictionary for Old and New Testament together with other standard Bible dictionaries.

The range of Bible commentaries available is also quite extensive. In the one volume series you can purchase William MacDonald’s Believer’s Bible Commentary, The Bible Knowledge Commentary by Walvoord and Zuck, John MacArthur’s Study Bible notes, Robertson’s Word Pictures in the New Testament and Alexander MacLaren’s Expositions. The Jamieson, Fausset and Brown commentary is available free.

Provided your device has a memory card most of the above resources can be stored within 2Gb.

The program interface is fairly intuitive. There are icons to enable you to:

  • choose a daily devotion,
  • change the book that you display,
  • change the biblical passage you want to read,
  • do a simple search,
  • list the results of your search, and
  • look up the meaning of a word or phrase.

The facilities that are available within this program and the resources that it supports are definitely worthy of consideration for any who see their mobile device as a further means of Bible study.
