Does intelligent extraterrestrial life exist? and Will God allow man to settle on other worlds?

Question

Does intelligent extraterrestrial life exist?

Answer

The USA alone is spending hundreds of millions of dollars a year, and is using the very latest technology, to try to trace signs of intelligent life in other parts of the universe. They have given up on finding higher forms of life in our local solar system but they have set up massive antennae arrays to listen for radio signals. These arrays are linked to the very latest and fastest computers so as to process the huge amounts of incoming data. They hope that by this means they might detect some signals that indicate intelligence on another planet somewhere ‘out there’ circling another sun.

However, the Bible is quite clear regarding man as being placed at the head of creation – including the whole universe, e.g., ‘When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet’, Ps. 8. 3-6.

This scripture alone makes it clear that man is the head of creation and therefore we have nothing to fear from visiting aliens!

Question

Will God allow man to settle on other worlds?

Answer

Man has visited the moon but has not yet been able to settle there. Within the next few decades it is possible he may have the resources and technology not only to construct a permanent settlement on the moon but also on Mars, and already we are hearing of plans to achieve this. However, it would seem the Bible indicates that the Lord will not allow this for Scripture confines God’s dealings with men in the last days to the earth. The fact that man is close to being technologically capable of such things would indicate that the day of the Lord’s intervention cannot be far away. As He intervened in the day of Babel’s tower, so Scripture teaches He will also do this in the last days. There are many Scriptures that might suggest that we are living in the end times and this is another indication that the day of the rapture of the church cannot be far away!
