Why did blind Bartimeus address the Lord Jesus as “Jesus, thou Son of David”?
Isa. 42, vv. 7 and 16, speak of the works of the Messiah and name specifically the giving of sight to the blind and leading them by a way they knew not. It was current knowledge among the Jews that the coming Messiah would perform those deeds. Blind Bartimeus by faith apprehended in the person of Jesus, the poor Nazarene, the true Messiah, and accordingly appealed to Him as such in the title “Son of David.” For Messiah was to be David’s Son.
