The People of War

'… TAKE ALL THE PEOPLE OF WAR WITH THEE’ Joshua 8. 1.

When trouble hits your life, reach for ‘the people of war!’ They’re trained for battle. They’re not afraid to fight. They’ve developed strategies for winning. They have that ‘bulldog spirit’, which rises above every circumstance and says, ‘If God be for us, who can be against us?’, Rom. 8. 31.

‘The people of war’ are really the people of the Word. They know how to take the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God, then go after the enemy, Eph. 6. 17. While others treat their swords as ornaments or hold them high in ceremonial parades, ‘the people of war’ know how to march into the enemy’s camp and take back everything he has stolen, 1 Sam. 30. 8.

Anybody can walk with you in the sunshine and worship with you on Sunday morning, but when you find somebody who can war with you hold on to them! Solomon says, ‘a brother is born for adversity’, Prov. 17. 17. Did you hear that? They’re born for it! They’re not just strong in faith, they’re even stronger in fight.

You won’t always find these people on public platforms, for they blow no trumpets, wave no banners and demand no applause. But like a battering ram they know how to break through the gates of hell and procure the promises that belong to you and me. Listen again: - ‘take all the people of war with thee and arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai and his people, and his city, and his land’, Josh. 8. 1.
