Israel in History and Prophecy

By Professor Alan Linton. 128pp, paperback. £5.75. Published by Christian Year Publications, available from John Ritchie Ltd., 40 Beansburn, Kilmarnock, KA3 1RH, and Gospel Folio Press, 304 Killaly Street west, Port Colborne, ON Canada, L3K 5A6

On many occasions the author has led parties of Christians on organised visits to Israel thereby gaining a deep insight into present social and political developments in that unique country. To marry such developments to any fulfilment of God’s prophetic programme for Israel, as stated in His word, proved to be for him a profitable exercise. Many of God’s people share his interest at such a critical time in the nation’s history. Surely, the hand of God is apparent in events presently transpiring in the Middle East, that provide a focus on Israel’s position among the nations.

Like David Oram who writes the foreword, I endeavoured to read this book in one sitting, and thereafter go through it again slowly and with attention to detail. The fact that Alan Linton for the most part includes the full text of scripture in his many references, and the structured arrangement of his own text in the six ‘essays’ that largely make up the book, allow for this. Altogether, the book provides an excellent introduction to prophetic studies of scripture, and is a timely reminder of the imminence of those things which must shortly come to pass. Three helpful appendices are included; the third, tabulating notable events of the past five decades concerning the State of Israel, provides an impressive conclusion to the book. I warmly recommend it to all our readers.
