THE VOICE OF THE LORD

Psalm 19. 1-6

By day and night creation bears constant witness to the wisdom and power of God. Its message leaves man without excuse, for creation is a visible evidence of the invisible God, Rom. 1. 20.

In the regular operation of the laws governing the universe, God is operative, and He is not shut out by His own laws! He holds it together as surely as He initiated it, Col. 1. 17; Heb. 1. 3. He can intervene in miracle or in judgment.

One of the greatest interventions was the conception of Jesus by the virgin mother. In His ministry the Lord intervened to turn water into wine, to walk on the sea, to still a violent storm, to ride an unbroken colt, etc.

He who has made heaven and earth, Acts 4. 24, can declare the prophetic word concerning His Son, v. 25, and can overrule the actions of many persons so as to bring that word to pass, vv. 26-28.

It is the Creator to whom we confess, “there is nothing too hard for thee”, Jer. 32. 17; Gen. 18. 14. It is because He numbers and names the (to us) innumerable heavenly bodies, that we are assured that He cannot ignore our state and weariness, Isa. 40. 26-31.

The Spirit of inspiration gave Paul to see a further meaning to “their voice … is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world”: it is the gospel that has gone out to Jew and Gentile. “The same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him”. How beautiful are the feet of those who preach peace and bring glad tidings into all the earth, Rom. 10. 12, 15, 18.

When the Lord’s fiat went out, “Go ye into all the world”, it began its course. Paul could state that it was preached to every creature which is under heaven, for he perceived that it inherently had its own worldwide fulfilment, as surely as the sun completes its course, Psa. 19. 6. Have we a burden to share in its progress until there is no speech or language where it is not heard?, v. 3.

Pray that the Lord of the harvest will thrust forth labourers into His harvest. He sends, for it is His harvest. “The fields … are white already to harvest”, John 4. 35.
