Today’s Daily Thought –
Moses summoned heaven and earth to hearken to this magnificent song. He is going to publish abroad the great name of Jehovah, in view of which, there is a call to, ‘ascribe greatness unto our God’.
The Name of God. Jehovah’s name stands forever. There is no power of earth or hell that can countervail divine purpose or hinder the shining out of divine glory. The opening notes of Moses’ song are most comforting. God is the Rock. He abides in unshakeable strength for His people. His works are perfect, without a single flaw. This is like dew upon the thirsty soul. ‘All his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he’. However, the people of God may fail and they have to do with One who abides faithful. Sometimes He takes the rod of discipline and uses it upon His people as well as the nations. He cannot tolerate evil. God is no respecter of persons.
None can deny the goodness, kindness, faithfulness, and tender mercy of the Most High. When God planned the settlements of the great national territories, all was in direct reference to Israel. Canaan lies at the centre of God’s geography. Jehovah’s portion is in His people and Jacob is the lot of His inheritance.
The Greatness of God. God’s love, goodness and patience to Israel, in spite of their falling into every kind of sin, inspired its people to ascribe greatness to their God. He is ineffable in holiness, infinite in wisdom, mysterious in trinity; boundless in His attributes of omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence. His eternal supremacy and redeeming grace call upon the hearts of all who know Him to, ‘ascribe greatness unto our God’.
God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world, and made us sons by adoption, and placed us in the Beloved. He has also redeemed us and forgiven all our sins. In the riches of His grace, God has linked us with Christ eternally as His Body, setting us in the place of highest dignity. Christ, in His love for us will bring us to the nearest place of affection as His Bride. How can we not ‘ascribe greatness to our God’?
