We collect your personal data from you as a controller when you subscribe to receive the magazine, sign up for our mailing list, make donations, and make purchases from us.

Where we are relying on a basis other than consent

We may rely on one or more of the following legal bases when processing your personal data for the following purposes:

  • In order to perform our contractual obligations to you. This would include our fulfilling your requests for the purchase of materials from us.

  • for marketing research, data analysis and troubleshooting. Where we are using any data for analytics, we will only use that data to observe trends and it will not be used in a way that could identify any particular individual;

  • Magazine Subscription: indefinitely unless instructed otherwise
  • Shop Customers (where an account is created by the customer): seven years after the date of the last purchase
  • Shop Customers (Guest Users): seven years after purchase
  • Book Club Members: indefinitely unless instructed otherwise

You have a number of rights concerning the personal information we use, which you may ask us to observe. In some cases, even when you make a request concerning your personal information, we may not be required, or be able to carry out your request as this may result in us not being able to fulfil our legal and regulatory obligations under the lawful processing conditions under which we hold your data or because there is a minimum statutory period of time for which we have to keep your information. If this is the case, we will let you know our reasons.

You can ask us to:

  • Correct or delete unnecessary or inaccurate personal information
  • Restrict or to object to the use of your personal information at any time
  • Where we rely on your consent to use your personal information, you can withdraw that consent at any time. Where your consent is withdrawn, your previous consent will remain valid in respect of our use of your information prior to the date you withdrew it, or if any marketing material has been sent prior to you advising that you don’t want us to contact you again. No fee usually required

You will not have to pay a fee to access your personal data (or to exercise any of the other rights). However, we may charge a reasonable fee if your request is clearly unfounded, repetitive or excessive. Alternatively, we may refuse to comply with your request in these circumstances.

Time limit to respond

We try to respond to all legitimate requests within one month. Occasionally it may take us longer than a month if your request is particularly complex or you have made a number of requests. In this case, we will notify you and keep you updated.
